The land on which this 4-star hotel now sits was originally part of the Jameson family estate (yes, of the Irish Whiskey fame) and the house was called St. Marnock’s House. The Jameson family had a 9-hole golf course on the site over 100 years ago, which remains today as part of the Portmarnock Golf Club. Your round will be on The Championship Portmarnock Links Golf Course designed by Bernhard Langer has hosted both the 2008 and 2009 Ladies Irish Open. After your round you might want to enjoy a bite in either the Jameson Bar, soak up some history or simply retire to the Cocktail Lounge for breathtaking views of the sea and golf.
Grand Hotel (Malahide, Co Dublin) and The Island Golf Club (Donabate, Co Dublin): The lovely coastal, heritage town of Malahide is also home to the famed Malahide Castle and of course the 4-star Grand Hotel where the lucky prizewinners will stay for one night as part of this grand prize package. Built in 1835, the hotel has had a colourful history including serving as the Irish headquarters for the British Army in WWI and a successful riding school during the 1960s. Since the Ryan family took ownership of the hotel in 1974, it has seen extensive renovation and development, including a conference centre, additional bedrooms, a new restaurant and lounge, and a new business centre. Founded in 1890, the historic Island Golf Club course was one of the first 12 golf courses to be established in Ireland, located just minutes from Malahide in Co Dublin. It is one of Ireland’s finest links courses – in fact it was voted the 11th best links course in Ireland by Golf Digest in 2011!
Royal Marine Hotel (Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin) and Woodbrook Golf Course (Bray, Co Donegal): Dating back to 1828, this historic and luxury landmark hotel overlooks Dublin Bay in the seaside village of Dun Laoghaire, about 20 minutes from Dublin’s city centre. The lucky prize winner will enjoy a Junior Suite while staying at this 4-star hotel, where they will also find a restaurant, a number of bars and lounges, a spa and health club, and conference and wedding facilities. The Woodbrook Golf Course is an 18-hole masterpiece based in Ireland’s ‘Garden County’ and is perched on top of 100-foot sea cliffs, landscaped on all sides and steeped in history. Established in 1921 as a private club, Woodbrook became affiliated with the Golfing Union of Ireland in 1926 and hasn’t looked back. It is also the birthplace to the modern Irish Open, which was held for the first time in almost 25 years at Woodbrook in 1975 and has been running strong at various courses throughout Ireland ever.
Lough Eske Castle, a Solis Hotel & Spa and Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh (Co Donegal): The contest winners will enjoy a deluxe guestroom at this castle, which dates back to the 1400s. Today, the castle sits within 43 acres of forest woodland, hugging the shores of Lough Eske, with the Blue Stack Mountains in the background. County Donegal’s only five-star hotel property is also the winner of several awards including the only Irish hotel to claim a World Luxury Hotel Award, the Luxury Country Hotel winner for three years in a row, named #1 Hotel in Ireland by MyGuideIreland, and voted Wedding Venue of the Year and Castle Venue of the Year by Ireland’s largest wedding website Weddingsonline.com. The Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh founded in 1979, the current Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh was designed by the legendary course architect, Eddie Hackett, and is continually featured in Golf World’s Top 100 courses in Ireland and the U.K. Since 1976 the course has undergone some changes with most being carried out under the direction of Pat Ruddy. |
